Cookie Policy
Effective date: May 23, 2026 · Last updated: May 23, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar tracking technologies the RebootDoctor.com website uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. This policy supplements our Privacy Policy and is consistent with applicable regulations including the EU ePrivacy Directive, GDPR, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
1. What Is a Cookie?
A cookie is a small text file (typically a few bytes to a few kilobytes) that a website stores in your browser when you visit. The next time you visit the same site, your browser sends the cookie back, which lets the site recognize your session, remember preferences, or measure how users navigate. Cookies cannot run programs or deliver viruses to your device.
Similar technologies (localStorage, sessionStorage, pixel tags) work the same way for the purpose of this policy.
2. Cookies We Use
2.1 Strictly Necessary (Always Active)
These cookies are required for our website to function. They cannot be disabled because the site won't work without them.
- cookie-consent (localStorage entry) — remembers your choice from our cookie banner. Stored locally in your browser, expires when you clear browser data.
2.2 Analytics (Only Set After Your Consent)
If you click "Accept" on our cookie banner, the following analytics cookies are set:
- _ga (Google Analytics 4) — distinguishes individual users with a randomly generated ID. Expires 2 years after last visit.
- _ga_<property> (Google Analytics 4) — session state. Expires 2 years after last visit.
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles are most useful to readers, which devices and browsers our visitors use, and roughly where in the world they're located (country-level only — we have IP anonymization enabled). We never use Google Analytics for advertising remarketing or audience targeting. Google's privacy policy applies to data they collect.
2.2b Cookieless Analytics (No Consent Required)
We also use Ahrefs Web Analytics, a privacy-focused measurement tool that sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. It collects only aggregated, anonymized page-view counts and contains no personal identifiers, so it loads on every page without requiring consent. If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, you can still block it with the browser-level opt-outs in section 3.3. Ahrefs Web Analytics details.
2.3 What We Don't Use
- No advertising cookies (we don't run ads on this site).
- No retargeting / remarketing pixels (Facebook, TikTok, etc.).
- No A/B testing cookies.
- No social media share-button cookies.
- No third-party fingerprinting.
3. How to Manage or Delete Cookies
3.1 On Our Site
When you first visit the site, our cookie banner appears with two options: Reject (no analytics cookies set, only the essential cookie-consent record) and Accept (analytics cookies enabled). You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser data for rebootdoctor.com — the banner will reappear on next visit and you can pick again.
3.2 In Your Browser
All modern browsers let you control cookies through settings. Direct links to instructions:
- Chrome cookie settings
- Microsoft Edge cookie settings
- Firefox cookie settings
- Safari cookie settings
Blocking all cookies (including essential ones) may make our site unable to remember your cookie-consent choice, which means the banner will reappear on every visit. Functional impact otherwise is minimal because we keep cookie use minimal.
3.3 Browser-Level Opt-Outs
- Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on — blocks GA across all sites.
4. Do Not Track
We honor Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals. If your browser sends a DNT:1 header, we will not load Google Analytics regardless of your cookie banner choice. Note that DNT is being phased out by major browsers in favor of Global Privacy Control (GPC); we honor GPC as well.
5. Cookies Set by Third Parties
When you visit certain pages, third-party services may set their own cookies independently of us:
- YouTube — if you click play on an embedded YouTube video. We use the youtube-nocookie.com domain whenever possible, which delays cookies until you actually press play.
- WhatsApp (Meta) — when you click any WhatsApp link and complete the action in WhatsApp's app or website. Subject to Meta's privacy policy.
6. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as we add or remove tools. The "Effective date" reflects the latest revision. Material changes are communicated via an updated cookie banner on next visit.
